How to Use Multiple Domains to Drive a Flood of New Buyers and Sellers to Your Web Site

(Reprinted from HomeTeam2000 Inner Circle archive.)

Two years ago it was relatively easy to secure a lead generating top ten position on many of the major search engines. All you had to do was make sure your pages were coded properly, submit them to the engines, and... voila! Done deal.

Unfortunately, today, due to the ever increasing number of web sites (read: competition) and the unfortunate reality that many "free" search engines are now embracing a pay-per-click or pay-for-inclusion model, getting your web site indexed and ranked is becoming more and more complicated and challenging. Today you have to address four primary issues:

  • Proper Web Site Design
  • Proper Web Page Optimization
  • Link Popularity
  • Search Engine Submission

Proper Web Site Design

The key here is to create a simple, almost basic web site that offers static html pages without frames, fancy java script, or other state-of-the-art elements that make it difficult or impossible for the search engines to index your site.

The problem with this strategy, however, is the fact that potential buyers and sellers who are internet savvy expect to see state-of-the-art elements, fancy java script, and other interactive functions in order to feel confident you are, indeed, on the same page they are.

So how do you reconcile these apparently contradictory elements? Use multiple domains...

Create one MAIN web site that offers all the fancy interfaces the consumer wants to see, and use multiple domains and multiple static html web sites for search engine promotion purposes.

Note: Many of the web sites available from providers like iLead, iProCenter, QuantumLeapSystems, Homes.com, and Homeseekers.com offer great direct response elements and/or nice lead capturing, lead follow up systems but they are next to impossible to get ranked on the search engines due to the fact they either incorporate frames and/or are designed dynamically, that is, they do not use static html pages. To get these sites indexed and ranked on the free search engines virtually demands a multiple domain, multiple web site strategy. They make great MAIN sites, but they lack the inherent elements necessary to get indexed and ranked on the search engines. You can dramatically increase the results of these sites by simply acting on the strategy we are discussing now.

Proper Web Page Optimization

In order to have any hope of getting your web site ranked on the search engines, EVERY page of your web site needs to be coded properly. That is, every page of your web site should include these five elements:

  • Page Title
  • Meta Tag Description
  • Meta Tag Keywords
  • Header Tags w/keywords
  • Keywords first 200 words

Page Title: This is the title that appears on the top of your browser. It is critical you use the geographic area you serve in your title as most people will type in a search that includes their geographic area of interest. The html code looks like this:

<TITLE>San Jose CA real estate: Buying or selling a home in San Jose California is smart. Find out why...</TITLE>

Meta Tag Description: In the html code of your web page, there is a place to write two or three sentence Meta Tag Description of your site. This source code should look something like this:

<meta name="description" content="Buy or sell a home in San Jose, CA. California real estate is hot. Search schools, daycare, elder car and more. Visit San Jose: Your California housing specialists.">

Meta Tag Keywords: In the html code of your web page, there is a place to write a series of "keywords" that pertain to your site. The best keywords to use are words or phrases ordinary buyers and sellers would type into a search engine to find real estate in your area. Here is an example:

<meta name="keywords" content="San Jose, CA, California, estate, real estate, realestate, homes, houses, land, broker, agent, sell a home, buy a home, property, Silicon Valley, rent">

Header Tags w/Keywords: Many search engines look for keywords within the Header Tags of your body text. You will gain greater positioning if your pages include descriptive header tags. This is a header tag.

<H>Welcome to San Jose, CA Real Estate!</H>

Keywords in Your Text: Sprinkle a good dose of keywords throughout the body text of your web pages - especially within the first 200 words. Some engines also give preference to pages with start and end with the same keywords or keyword phrases.

The next step, once you have all your current pages optimized, is to design a number of additional pages for the sole purpose of ranking high on a particular search engine for a particular keyword or keyword phrase by reverse engineering a high ranking page and creating your own page based on this proven keyword density analysis.

Of course this goes way beyond the expertise of most people and is best left to a search engine optimization specialist, however, due to the current nature of the internet, you cannot afford to ignore this step. In fact, the more "optimized" pages you discover, create, host, and submit to the search engines... the greater your chances of being indexed and ranked on the engines.

Increase Link Popularity

Link popularity is one of the most critical, most overlooked elements required to get your web site ranked high on the search engines. Consider...

In other words, one of the the single most important ingredients you need to win the search engine wars and create a steady stream of new buyers and sellers to your site is Link Popularity.

So what, exactly, is link popularity?

Simply put, link popularity is the total number of web sites that link to your web site. The more links pointing to your site, the higher you score - and (all else being equal) high score wins.

Unfortunately, most of the strategies available to help you increase the link popularity of your web site are either too time consuming, costly, very costly, risky, worthless, or simply inconvenient:

  • Scour the internet for a complimentary sites, track down the owner, make contact, and ask them to link or trade links. (A solid strategy, but time consuming)

  • Pay a service provider $497 to $1,500 to do the work and secure 25-100 links. (Good, but costly)

  • Buy, install, and manage a server-side reciprocal link tracking program. (Inconvenient and risky)

  • Submit your site to thousands of Free-For-All sites. (Absolutely worthless)

  • Write numerous articles, include a link to your site, and hope someone publishes them. (Time consuming)

  • Join a traditional "Link Farm" like LinksToYou. (Free, but risky due to the fact some engines are "banning" link farms.)

  • Spend $50+ a month to join a Protected Link Farm (Good, but costly)

A more simple approach is to use Multiple Domains and Multiple Web Sites to create your own internal link popularity.

Search Engine Submission

Once all your pages have been optimized, you need to submit ALL of these pages to the search engines. Submitting just your index page or home page isn't going to cut it. You must submit EVERY page to the search engines.

How to Use Multiple Domains and Highly Optimized Web Pages to Increase Your Link Popularity and Dominate the Search Engines for Real Estate in Your Local Area

Here is the strategy in a nutshell:

  1. Register multiple domains

  2. Host these domains using low-cost hosting services

  3. Create a optimized real estate web site

  4. Personalize the model

  5. Interlink each domain on the sitemap.html page

  6. Upload these pages to your new domains

  7. Submit these new domains and pages to the search engines

Register Multiple Domains

Chances are you already have multiple domains you are either doing nothing with or you are using to simply "redirect" visitors to your main site. If this is the case, we are getting ready to use them and leverage off these "hidden assets" you have been ignoring.

If not, you are can register new domains here for only $14.95:

At a minimum, I suggest you secure one new domain for every specific area you serve. If you serve five distinct cities, you'll need at least five domains in addition to your main site.

Host These Domains

Unfortunately, due to the highly competitive nature of the internet today, using a free web hosting service to host your new web sites will not work anymore because most of the major search engines will not index any site being served by a free web hosting service.

With that in mind, you will want to find the least expensive "real" web host available. (100megswebhosting.com offers full-service sites for only $5 a month on a month-to-month contract without any set-up fee).

If you have secured six domain names, you will need to secure hosting for all six of these domains. If, for example, you use 100megswebhosting.com, your cost would be $60 x 6 sites... a total of $360 annually.

Create an Optimized Web Site

We have reverse-engineered a number of top ranking real estate web sites for a half dozen major search engines and created a 27-page set of highly optimized pages. In other words, each of these pages "mirror" the exact keyword density analysis of another real estate web site that is ranking in the #1 position on one or more of the major search engines. Of course the format, copy, pictures, and links have all been changed - but the critical keyword density ratios have all been maintained.

InnerCircle members can download the model here. You will also need to download a copy of free copy of TextPad in order to take the next step.

After downloading, simply "double click" the optimized file and it will create a new working folder on your desktop called "Optimized". You will also want to "double click" the TextPad file and follow the installation instructions.

Personalize the Web Site Model

The next step is to personalize the 27-page web site model for each of the domains and areas you serve.

The first step is to make a one copy of the new working directory on your desktop called "Optimized" for each of the domains you are going to create. That is, if you are going to create six new web sites... you will want to create six copies of the "Optimized" directory.

Then "double click" the Optimized Directory, open the READ ME file, and follow the step-by-step instructions for each of your new sites.

Interlink Your Web Sites

Very important, once you have personalized each of your new site models, open the sitemap.html page in each and add links to ALL of your web sites. For example, if you have one MAIN site, an iLead site, and six new "Optimized" sites - you will want to add eight new links to each sitemap.html page. Doing this will effectively interlink each of your sites and help increase your link popularity rating - a critical element necessary to not only secure a coveted top ten search engine positions, but also to keep it.

Upload New Web Sites

Using an FTP program, log into your new web site(s) and UPLOAD all optimized pages and the image folder into your main directory. And that's it! You now have another web site designed solely and only for promotion purposes to:

  • Crash the Top Ten,

  • Crush the Competition, and

  • Cash in on the Power of the Search Engines to Drive a Steady Stream of New Buyers and Sellers to Your Main Web Site.

Submit the New Pages and Domains

The final step is to submit at least the index.html page of each of your new sites to all of the major search engines and, ideally, EVERY page.

Summary

Getting your web site ranked high on the search engines is a lot like winning the lottery - the more tickets you buy, the greater your chances of winning. The difference is...

When it comes to free search engine promotion, "pages, links, and web sites" are the tickets you need to invest in. The more pages, links, and web sites you have, the greater your chances of getting found, indexed, and ranked.

Plain and simple.

Creating highly optimized doorway pages and hosting these pages on multiple, interlinked domains is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to literally dominate the free search engines for real estate in your local area.
